Good day, everyone, and welcome to The Estée Lauder Companies Fiscal 2012 First Division Conference Call. Today's call is being recorded and webcast. For opening remarks and introductions, I would like to impassion a concern the call over to the Vice President of Investor Relations, Mr. Dennis D'Andrea. Please go forwards, sir.

Good morning, everyone. On today's call are Fabrizio Freda, President and Chief Directorate Officer; Rick Kunes, Executive Vice President and Chief Fiscal Officer; and Lynne Greene, Global President of our Clinique, Genesis and Ojon brands. Lynne will discuss the positioning and critical progress at Clinique.

Their research, they add, teases out the commercial impact of user-generated product reviews "by identifying the persuasiveness that consumers put on individual evaluations and product features, and estimating the all-inclusive impact of review text on sales."

Ghose and his colleagues looked at the sales and reviews of digital cameras and camcorders on Amazon, focusing on those work features most frequently discussed by consumers (rather than the product descriptions provided by manufacturers). "With digital cameras, someone could talk about the box size, the battery life, the megapixel resolution, the pressure and so forth," says Ghose. "What we do is quantify the value that each of these features has on terminating sales. The means to the end is to look at the effect on pricing power. As pricing changes, sales will revolution, too."

According to Ghose, their work is applicable to all kinds of goods and services, ranging from hotels and clothes to restaurants and cars -- "basically any output that has multidimensional attributes." And it can be useful to everyone involved in online selling. For consumers insomuch as a specific product, "our analysis parses out which features other users find most valuable, without those consumers having to tediously go through hundreds of reviews. This reduces the cognitive costs for them at a prematurely when social media is exploding."
