Gift Guide 2011: Think soft and soothing things for babies

Sometimes the youngest people on the gala shopping list can be the hardest to shop for. Do you go a practical set of bibs or buy that shrewd, flashy toy? This holiday season, stick with safe and environmentally matey gifts, and all the Santa babies, and their parents, will be happy.

Eco Goods in downtown Santa Cruz offers a across of organic and sustainably made clothes and gifts for babies and beyond. Lily Ruderman, a put by manager, suggests buying organic fabrics for coddle to avoid the chemicals that are sometimes found in traditional ones.

"Organic cotton and bamboo is incredibly relaxing so people love the way they feel," she said.

Gift baskets are a way to spawn a personalized gift, and can include an assortment of items at a range of prices. Ruderman suggests creating a themed form toll basket full of goodies.

Start with a body-care habitat, she said. Include a terry cloth towel, such as a Bamboosa hooded towel, which comes in a number of colors and cost about $30. Collection for Veterans Set Friday in Warren

Warren Burg and community leaders are asking everyone to remember a veteran this feast season.

Councilman Bob Dean, along with others, helped organize the backer annual gift collection for veterans that will take place Friday at Packard Music Classroom.

Dean said the donations they receive will go to two veterans nursing homes in Ohio, one in Sandusky and one in Cincinnati.

"One of the things we cognizant the eastern part of the state supporting the veterans that don't have someone to come out and stopover them during the holidays and get some gifts," said Steve Matune, of the Ohio Veterans Native.

Councilman Al Novak, on behalf of himself and his father, gave one of the first nummary donations.

"I am challenging other elected officials to do the same and run a donation for those who made sacrifices for our country and our freedom," Novak said.

Some field businesses have already begun to donate.

"The gifts already have started to on in," Dean said. "I have had some for three months, like the 500 towels and cooking itmes and a gift certificate from Walmart."
