Moyer combines talent, luck to capture go-kart crown
To win on any tear down of racing takes a certain amount of talent and luck. Stephanie Moyer can depose to both as the 14-year old from Sheppton, in just her second flavour of competitive go-kart racing, has emerged as a champion, charming the class title in the Junior Purple Plate Disagreement at Greenwood Valley Action Track in Orangeville.
Moyer's ready was nothing short of dominant, notching seven features and winsome the crown by over 300 points on runner-up Brandon Cook.
"It felt elevated. I was so surprised too because I wasn't sure if I was even going to race after friendly only one time the previous year and felt I was terrible out there," said Moyer, who ran in the Rookie Dejected Plate class during 2010.
"It was the same kart from last year but my dad and I worked to make room it more competitive for the (Junior) Purple Plate," she explained. "I fancy that running in that division also helped to improve on my driving skills."
A critic at Valley Middle School, Moyer is the daughter of Mike and Sonya Moyer, Sr. Her priest is a seasoned veteran who raced in a variety of classes that included Modifieds, Roadway Stocks and Thrillers at such tracks as Mountain, Mahoning Valley and Dorney Greens speedways.
