Jonathan stable looks as if he’s -karat ( here , here , and here ) about Obama’s home spending freeze proposition.  It seems like money-making castor oil and federal hemlock.  (Though I have to insist on special liberty against the Dukakis-in-a-tank instantly, in which he looked “wimpy” decent because he’s no taller than, er, me.)

But here’s  two accomplishable reasons we both might be mistaken.  They could be wild.  I’m proposing, not declaring, and hoping for an defence.

First, what’s the baseline?  Nate White, in what’s barely a pro-Obama proclaim , casually says that the baseline will be the 2010 budget, stimulus and all.  The stimulus is not only big–though not big enough–but contains loads of discretionary spending (as any father of kids in well-known way of life should be told again and again).  It’s doubtlessly too much aid to states and such to be politically sustainable over three or four years anyway.  A freeze compared to that might still be needless.  But it might not be catastrophic.

Gal Friday, Politico, who should identify, opines that the freeze will be welcomed by “Down in the mouth Dog Democrats and shortage hawks” (and loathed by liberals).  Now then: could it be that Obama hasn’t been so indolent in nailing down the irreversible few salubriousness safe keeping votes as it seems?
