The Salvation Army in Portage la Prairie is in the centre of it's adopt a family campaign, where Portagers can give a little Christmas consolation to needy families.
The adopt a family campaign is an annual at the time that the Salvation Army facilitates along with their Christmas hampers.
"So far I make up we've had 32 families that will be adopted, that's out of about 350 hampers that we do," said Lieut. Jeff Arkell of the Salvation Army in Portage.
Arkell said anyone interested in adopting a kinsmen can contact the Salvation Army and they will try their best to match your requisition.
"Now that all of our registrations have taken place we contact them with the information on the families; say a application comes in 'I want to adopt a family with two young children and a solitary select mom' we try our best to match up the families that way," said Arkell.
The adopters are settled a list of the basic goods Salvation Army adds to their hampers and asks that they put those same things in. Once the adopters get the ages and sex of the children in the adopted kinfolk they can go ahead and purchase toys to put in the hamper.
