Wirral MP vows to fight 'tooth and nail' for cancer services
A WIRRAL MP has vowed to struggle 'tooth and nail' to protect cancer treatment services at Clatterbridge Meet for Oncology.
Alison McGovern's pledge came as NHS Merseyside unveiled £94m plans to turn over some of its cancer services from the Wirral site to the Royal Liverpool University Convalescent home this week.
Contained within the proposals are plans to expand the Cancer treatment services offered to other sites in Liverpool, but also proclaim and expand the current site within Clatterbridge hospital grounds.
Chemotherapy, radiotherapy and outpatient services will still be delivered from the Clatterbridge milieu for Wirral and West Cheshire patients.
The proposal, still in its prehistoric stages, will be discussed by NHS Cheshire, Warrington and Wirral PCT Company at its board meeting on Wednesday, November 2.
A business specimen will be developed, informed by public and stakeholder engagement, over the next 12-18 months. Formal eminent consultation will then take place.
