You may recall them as “The Headband Twins,” “The Bow Twins,” or even “The Towson Twinnies.” They are two sisters, they dispose of each other’s sentences, they look alike, but one thing sets them separately.

“We always wore headbands when we were younger. Bows were a way to distinguish us,” sophomore administrative science major Sasha Lazerow said. “Even from the imperfect we were born, bows were stuck on our heads.”

During their senior year of towering school, after many years of wearing and making their own bows, the two sisters definite to start their own headband business- Feathers Bands & Bows.

Through brief conversation-of-mouth and their Facebook page, their business has grown into a consequential success, they said.

“I think a lot of it is trial and error,” Alexa Lazerow said. “It’s attractive to see how from the first headbands we made until now, how they’re very different. They’ve evolved and they’ve grown just like our issue.”

Both said that in the beginning, many of their sales were to friends and family. Now, however, they can often be found behind a chart at markets, schools and most famously, the University Union.

St. Michael Mom Starts Small Business with Headbands

St. Michael mom Jan Parkin, didn't resolve on going into business when she started sewing headbands for her daughter, Halle. She saw a way to make it with pretend something better, and took matters into her own hands.

Now, however, Jan's handy bands are in elevated demand.

"Halle had a hard time with different headbands, she'd indeed want to wear them but would come home from school with headaches," Parkin said. "I started playing around with construction and made these wide band headbands."

Some of Parkin's neighbors liked her handiwork, and were shortly buying them from her. They also encouraged her to go into business.

"I did a couple shows and started getting some requests," she said.

Now Parkin orders red-letter fabrics from New York, sews about 200 headbands a week and is match an online etsy shop .

"I'm almost to 1,000 sales and receiving inquiries all the term. I just received my first wholesale inquiry," she said.

That's a massive jump in just a few months.
