But some are using these less new centers and what is called halotherapy for medical conditions, a factious practice because of the lack of U.S. medical studies on the therapy. People go to these places for a more fitting approach to respiratory and skin issues including asthma, allergies, bronchitis, colds, sinusitis and psoriasis.
Gaining proponents
"It has no controlled trials with controlled conditions," says Dr. Leonard Bielory, done director of the UMDNJ Asthma and Allergy Research Center and currently a professor at Rutgers. "The salt remedial programme people are doing, there's no standard to establishing these rooms so there's no bear witness that a specific room is better than another room. That's the problem."
