Lumiére will showcase local art in unconventional ways

Lumière: Of the time Art — Unconventional Spaces will feature a total of 41 projects in a far-reaching range of artistic fields including visual art, first-rate craft, theatre, dance, music, and film. The six-hour, unshackle event will run from 6:57 p.m. to 12:57 a.m. and artists and their projects will be set up in distinct indoor venues and outdoor spaces throughout downtown.

Reid said her fable bombing began in the United States by a group of people wondering what to do with with their leftover bits of fibre. They began knitting or crocheting coverings for everything from buses to trees.

“The whole intend of yarn bombing in theory is to warm up an urban rank or to sort of humanize it or give it personality, and usually there’s no political or sexual message attached, it’s just sort of something fun that brings a grin,” she said.

But with Reid’s Lumière project called I Need I Didn’t Dump You, there is a bit of a message.

“I am yarn bombing parking meters and if all works out according to plot they’ll be decorated to look like little monsters and the monsters will be littering and the accent of ‘I wish I didn’t dump you’ is to sufficiently good of make people think a little bit about the amount of litter and trash that you often find on the sides of the road of Sydney in the spring,” she said, noting she’ll be set up cheese-paring the post office on Charlotte Street.

Painter wants best from senior point guard

Lewis Jackson is Purdue's basketball catalyst. In the excitement of Robbie Hummel's return and the steady progress of Ryne Smith's occupation (Yes, he did really light up Penn State for 20 points, Iowa for 18 and Minnesota for 15 last ripen), it's the all-over-the-court Jackson who has the most exhausting burden.

The 5-9 chief point guard must pressure the entire court, run the quarrelsome show, rebound like never before and prove to all doubters that if he is not a three-point Damoclean sword in the manner of E'Twaun Moore, he can hit it well enough to loosen up pack-it-around-Hummel defenses.

“He has to resume to do the same things he's done before,” coach Matt Painter said, “and do them a insufficient better. That's true especially going into your senior year. That should be your most desirable year of college. That's what we expect from all three of our seniors, that individually this be the crush year they've had at Purdue.”

Jackson, Hummel and Smith are the older leaders on a team in transition after the departure to the Boston Celtics (if there ever is a NBA ready) of Moore and JaJuan Johnson.

Film feast for archivalists

While other spocket operas mingle for premieres, the Festival Lumiere -- also known as the Grand Lyon Take Festival -- is content to screen also-rans, some of them more than a century old. The circumstance itself takes place in the eponymous French town where the Lumiere brothers jigger their first moving pictures in the late 19th century, reflecting the soul of the history-conscious confab.

The third edition of the cinephile wine again exclusively focuses on restored classics and retrospectives, with an exciting lineup of collateral events and guests. Last year's fest sold an awesome 60,000 tickets, proving there's no shortage of auds looking to bring to light oldie-but-goodies among the lineup's many classics.

Organized by Lyon's Institut Lumiere, which is headed (like the fest itself) by Gallic helmer Bertrand Tavernier and Cannes topper Thierry Fremaux, the sprocket opera allows the dusting archive to "expand and complement its events calendar and acquaint a much larger audience
