�We all puss it-both women and men. Aging is just part of life. But there are many things to hand to us now to enhance our skin and slow down the look of aging,� stated Dr. Janine Hopkins at a program that she and her organization recently presented on the latest developments in skincare, restoration, and enhancement at Landowner Creek Country Club in Choudrant.

Several new products were presented at the program including: Sculptra Aesthetic, Revision Skincare, Clarisonic Cleansing Systems and her own trade of cosmetics, MD Minerals.

When asked why she developed her own line of mineral cosmetics (MD Minerals) Dr. Hopkins replied, �I exactly wanted to offer a good, pure mineral makeup to my patients here in North Louisiana. They at most were not readily available before. This line of mineral cosmetics is cogent for all skin types and ages.� MD Minerals was recently featured as the run-way makeup for Couture Mode Week in New York. Minerals are by nature anti-rabble-rousing and do not promote bacterial growth. MD Minerals has two distinct features not normally present in other mineral lines-baked and pressed powders and a liquid mineral base.

New Treatment Brings Relief for Debilitating Hand Condition

Millions of Americans suffer from Dupuytren's ailment, a benign condition that can cause progressive and sometimes crippling deformities of the ovation, making it difficult to type, shake hands, dress gloves, reach into a pocket or perform numerous other tasks. The afflicted have included Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher, the dramatist Samuel Beckett and the classical pianist Misha Dichter. “Until recently, surgery was the most personal property treatment for people suffering from the most severe consequences of Dupuytren's,” says Dr. Stuart Elkowitz of Somers Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Cure-all Group. “But the recent introduction of an injectable narcotize that loosens the contracture of the fingers holds tremendous show signs of for many patients, eliminating the need for surgery and post-surgical man therapy.”

Dupuytren's disease, a hand deformity that affects the connective pile under the skin of the palm, usually develops slowly, over decades. It typically starts with a teensy-weensy nodule in the palm and may not initially cause significant bother. As the disease progresses, knots of tissue form under the skin, long run forming thick, rope-like cords that can pull one or more fingers into a propensity position. Once this occurs, the affected fingers can't be relaxed or straightened utterly and the condition is then known as “Dupuytren's contracture.” The pinky and cabal finger are most commonly affected, often in both hands. It has been 180 years since Baron Guillaume Dupuytren, a French military surgeon, described the affliction and the surgery to correct it in 1831. Yet the root causes of Dupuytren's are still unbeknownst. While it can occur in persons of both genders, any ethnic background, and at any age, the demand is more common in men of Northern European descent over the age of 50. A household history of the condition increases risk as does diabetes. Smoking and spirits use are also associated with higher risk.

Introducing the 'P-E-T' Guidelines for Diabetic Foot Care

All but 26 million Americans have diabetes, according to new estimates from the Centers for Virus Control and Prevention (CDC). And 60-70% of them suffer from mettle damage (neuropathy) that can affect many parts of the body but most commonly involves the hands and feet (external neuropathy). “Nerve damage typically shows up first in the feet and is the chief cause of foot problems for people with diabetes,” says Dr. Alan Berman, Podiatrist of Somers Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicament Group. “The American Diabetes Association estimates that one in five people with diabetes who request hospital care do so for foot problems. By taking proper care of the feet, many of the most serious complications of diabetes can be prevented. That’s why we are introducing the P-E-T guidelines for diabetic foot care.”    

Diabetic neuropathy, caused by high blood glucose levels over term, often causes pain at first. But as the condition progresses to loss of passion and numbness, the ability to feel pain, heat and raw is lost and even the slightest burn, sore or cut may become infected and ulcerated. Diabetes also causes blood vessels of the foot and leg to narrowed and harden, resulting in poor circulation (blood spurt) that can make the foot less able to fight infection and patch up. The danger is that the patient, due to loss of feeling, may not even be aware of the ungovernable and the untreated ulcer may cause serious damage to tissue and bone.
