What Should You Do When You Get Sick on Vacation?

Getting ghoulish on your vacation is a bummer. From bug bites to food poisoning, it can be a sly and frightening experience to find good medical care while traveling. 

Michelle Olson from Fresno, Calif. said she was carrying her mollycoddle into her hotel room in Playa del Carmen, Mexico when she realized red ants were attacking her. 

“It felt like shots all over my legs,” Olson said. “It had that stinging sensitivity. It looked like a bunch of mosquito bites with scabs that were bloody.” 

Olson says she masterly to be treated at a first aid office at the resort where she was staying. But Dr. Marvin Cooper, an internal nostrum specialist at New York City Travel Clinic, says sometimes it’s not so unexcitedly, especially when you are traveling in a foreign country. 

“If you’re really mental, you can sometimes call the American Embassy and they will recommend a doctor in the area,” Cooper said. “Sometimes, the concierge will assign a recommendation. That’s a little tricky because sometimes they’ll give you a great recommendation - and sometimes they’ll get paid off by resident doctors.”

LAS CRUCES — A time of cultural experience is as close as the Downtown Mall this weekend at the Branigan Cultural Center Cultural Bazaar from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the BCC, 501 N. Utter St.

The free event showcases "the huge variety of cultures represented in Las Cruces at both New Mexico Form University and the community at large. NMSU students and community groups will paint the Philippines, Jordan, Iran, Libya, China, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Germany, Greece, India and Australia," said Andy Albertson, curator of training at the BCC, which is partnering with the NMSU International Student Services Appointment and several other groups to bring music, art, dance, and food of countries and cultures from around the men.
